This web site is to help you search for a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly (RCFE) in California that best suits your or your family member’s needs. This RCFE guide offers some basic information on all residential care facilities for the elderly in California.

Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly—sometimes called "Assisted Living" or "Board and Care" facilities—provide a level of care that includes assistance with some activities of daily living, while allowing residents to be more independent than in most nursing homes.

More detailed services information is available for those RCFEs that responded to a Facility Questionnaire.

This web site does not contain information about facility inspection visits, complaints, citations or deficiencies. In order to find that information, you can go to your local Community Care Licensing (CCL) office and ask to view the public file for a specific facility.

Community Care Licensing must provide the public file for a facility upon request, but to minimize the amount of time spent waiting for the file to be pulled, it is a good idea to call in advance and request that the file is ready before your visit.
